I’m not going to lie… I’ve been really lacking motivation recently. Not just for the blog, but for virtually everything in my life. I thought I was okay. I could see light at the end of the tunnel, and I still can, but it feels like we’re wading through treacle trying to get there.
I’ve been really quiet on here, and that’s partly because with everything that’s been going on in the wider world, writing on a travel blog seems pretty irrelevant – plus there has been a focus and importance in listening to other voices, and I wanted to take a step back.
I’m still focusing on the positives and counting my blessings, but with every week that goes by, I can feel a weight pressing down on me that little bit harder, in my life and on the world in general. Next week is going to be really tough; we should be getting married on Saturday with all our friends and family around us. We’ve finally re-booked it (a year today!) but with it are mixed feelings as we think of how far away that is (it wasn’t even a year away when we booked the original date!) and also think of those who will no longer be able to celebrate with us.
One thing I have extremely thankful for, even though I’ve barely been leaving the house, is the fact we live in Edinburgh, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I would say “in my opinion” but literally EVERYONE I know who has been here holds that opinion, and really, at what point does it become fact? 😉
So today, I want to share some of my favourite photos of Edinburgh. Here are 50 of them, so hopefully you can see what I mean. Many of these have been taken in lockdown, as I am fortunate enough to be able to walk around the city, and it’s been pretty incredible seeing it without the crowds on gorgeous, sunny days.

All of your photos are stunning and really do capture the beauty of Edinburgh perfectly! So odd to see the streets empty. I’ve only been once but fell in love with it determined to live there one day hopefully. I’m so sorry to hear you had to postpone your wedding but it will be something positive to look forward to! ☺️

Edinburgh has been my home for last 10 Years. I only came to London on a short stint, but already miss being home! It is definitely one of the most beautiful cities to live in! Your pictures took me back to so many memories I had there.
Urgh. I am so sorry about all the rubbishness of 2020. It is not really surprising you’ve been losing your motivation with everything that is going on. I am just glad that you managed to rebook your wedding, and I really hope you’ll get to Japan at some point.
Now, I am LOVING these Edinburgh photos – especially with all those blue skies! It is pretty strange to see the normally empty streets so empty though!

LOVE the light tunnel too ☺️ I visited Edinburgh just before Christmas a few years back, and it felt super festive. (Who doesn’t love a good old Christmas market?!)
Thank you! Haha it’s funny because it seems to be half way between a staple stop and a hidden gem! I think it’s a big “Instagram” place, but unless you’ve seen it somewhere, you wouldn’t think to go there (same with Circus Lane). It’s only about a 10-15 minute walk from Princes Street so you’ll have to check it out next time you’re here! 😉
