Photo Friday: Scenes From Lake Como

Well folks, it’s been a while since I did a Photo Friday post! In fact, I don’t think I managed to do any last year, as I was so busy with all the regular blog posts.

I have edited and uploaded far more photos of Lake Como than I used in my last blog post, so this seems like a good opportunity to take you on a less stressful journey through the scenery of northern Italy.

Let’s start with Como, at the bottom of the lake and the beginning of my journey.

From Como, I took the ferry towards Bellagio, which took over two hours of zig-zagging across the lake. It was the perfect way to take in the scenery and the beautiful towns dotted along the edge of the lake, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

And away we go!

I adored all the lakeside towns and villages – we stopped at sooo many!

And then, eventually, Bellagio.

Bellagio came with a free sunset!

This marked the end of day one’s views, but I went on to have the best evening; one of my favourites of all my travels.

The next day brought more beautiful views, starting on dry land.

And then it was back out on the water, taking a longer-than-intended route towards Varenna.

As you’ll know from my last post, I really loved Varenna.

But as much as I loved Varenna, what I loved even more were the views from above it.

And of course these ghouls!

Did you know they are modelled on actual visitors to the castle? They are destroyed naturally over the winter, and new ones are made on visitors in the spring!

And then it was time to leave Varenna. As you may know from my last blog post, the rest of the day was a disaster. I got some lovely views from the train when I eventually got on the right one, but the stress was real.

I’d seen some of the best parts of Lake Como already, though.

I didn’t do Lecco any justice, as after my disasters with the trains, I only had an hour there, which was largely spent dodging construction work and finding underwhelming food. But I DO love that view above, so I’m glad I made the stop.

Lake Como is such a beautiful destination. I didn’t know if I’d love the towns, but they were just as stunning, matching up to the lake. It was also surprisingly easy to do on a budget – while I’m past the stage of doing everything on a budget out of necessity, it was a pleasant surprise to still be able to.

Hopefully some of these photos inspire a visit – they’re certainly making me want to go back!
