I’ve been meaning to put together lots of London photos for a while, as my last few visits have been spent enjoying taking photos of the city. As I’ve got more into photography, too, I’ve appreciated a lot more about different parts of London, and it’s taken me to areas that I haven’t thought to visit before.

Plus, my next couple of posts are going to be about Paris, and I had to visit London, albeit very briefly, on that trip. None of these photos will be from then, mind you. I doubt I took a single one.

I did think about going with a theme – I have lots of photos of the Kensington mews, for example. But I also have plenty of other houses, pubs, and pretty streets that aren’t mews. And if we’re going for pretty photos of London, how can I not include some of St Paul’s from many angles?

So I’m going to throw caution to the wind and start with some of my favourite photos of the famous London attractions.

Big Ben, Westminster, London

Parliament Square with Big Ben, and the London Eye poking out.

Tower Bridge, London

I’ve got a lot of photos of Tower Bridge, but I think this one is my favourite!

Moving on to the Tower Of London… I love this “street” of houses within the walls.

And the Shard, a new landmark of London. I used to get the train into London Bridge a lot, and spent years watching the progress of the Shard. It’s weird that it’s just there, a complete building, every time I go now!

The Shard from Tower Bridge, London

And of course, a view FROM the Shard. The view in this direction was my favourite.

Speaking of viewpoints, I could dedicate a whole post to those in London as well (but I’ll wait until I’ve ticked a few more off my list!).

I really like this one from the top of St Paul’s.

That’s most of the “typical” London scenes out of the way, but I’ve got one more which I need to dedicate a whole section to.

Onto possibly the most photogenic building in London: St Paul’s Cathedral

Another viewpoint I really like – from the rooftop of One New Change, which you can see in the viewpoint photo above.

In fact, St Paul’s is so photogenic that you don’t need to be into photography at all. Here’s one I took about ten years ago.

Contrasting architecture in London

There are never-ending skyscrapers popping up in London, which I’m not too keen on, but I’ve always really liked the Gherkin! However, there is lots of contrasting architecture surrounding it.

I always find the contrast very striking around Monument, too. Such a mix of eras and styles here.

And finally, I love the contrast between this historic street, and the towering walkie talkie building!

And a slightly different type of contrast…

Kensington looking like Grimmauld Place, London

Grimmauld Place, is that you?

Markets of London

I am sure there are more I could feature, but the one that sprung to mind is Leadenhall Market…

And let’s face it, while we’re on the subject, you can’t miss Borough Market.

Shad Thames

I had never even heard of this until my friend mentioned it and wanted to go. It’s down past Tower Bridge, and the bridges between the buildings were used to roll barrels brought in from the ships. A wee piece of history tucked away, like so many things in London – which is probably one of my favourite things about the city.

Battersea Power Station

Battersea Power Station has been transformed into an industrial shopping centre and entertainment complex. It’s very cool to be able to go inside, and you can even take a lift up to the top of one of the towers! It’s extortionate though, so I haven’t done it.

And speaking of extortionate, how much do you reckon these flats go for…?

I have to admit the redevelopment around Battersea is incredible – but I couldn’t help wondering for who?

A walk along the canal in Little Venice

One of my favourite things which is slightly “off the beaten path” in London is this walk from Little Venice to Camden.

Obviously that last photo isn’t a canal, but it is from that walk. I’m not entirely sure where. Did I ever tell you that we had to be diverted to avoid a crime scene that turned out to have been a murder?!

Pretty Richmond

Moving slightly further out of London, Richmond is a lovely area. It’s gained a little prominence from being featured in Ted Lasso (the photo below has Ted’s flat in it) but it’s a really charming suburb of London that’s worth exploring.

Richmond, London. On the left is the door of Ted Lasso's house.

There are some great pubs in Richmond (including the one from Ted Lasso!). I loved the look of this one, too.

And this is the Ted Lasso pub, The Prince’s Head. Can confirm they do excellent food!

I’ve made a mental note to take photos of more pretty pubs, as there are lots of them in London. I haven’t even been to the famous Churchill Arms. Anyway, here are some beautiful houses and an even more beautiful theatre in Richmond.

The pretty mews of Kensington

And finally, the mews. I considered at one point of doing a full photo post of these. I probably just about have enough photos. But for now, here’s a selection.

Since my most recent visit to London, other than the transit to Paris, was using the city pass to finally see all the main sights after almost twenty years of visiting, I think future visits will be seeking out even more interesting places for photos. After all, you never know what you’ll find around each corner. Many of these photos have come from just that.

And despite the fact I’ve been to London so many times, and know it very well, there are so many areas I still haven’t been to, and there are still things on my list.

Where are some of your favourite places for photos in London?

  1. Love these photos!!Yes, I must admit we ventured to Richmond because of Ted Lasso too. Hampstead and Notting Hill are great areas for taking photos too.

  2. Ooh, I didn’t know London had a Little Venice. On the list it goes! Grazie! Great pics of a wonderful city. Not sure I can name a favorite area, but the Husband loves Hampstead Heath. Great views from there.

  3. Ah, your photos bring me back to my time in London, most recently almost two years ago! I also explored the picturesque mews, as well as St. Paul’s Cathedral. I didn’t know there was a Little Venice in London, and I’ll definitely need to check it out the next time I’m back in the big city. Excellent photography, Clazz!

  4. I love that street with the lights in Soho, it looks so far away from the hustle and bustle I usually associate with London. I hadnโ€™t heard of Shad Thames – one for the list for whenever I next make it to London! Thank you for sharing. There is a lot of beauty to be found in London, especially when you venture beyond Zone 1.

  5. Your photos capture London’s charm perfectly! I love the mix of iconic landmarks and hidden gems, especially St Paulโ€™s and Shad Thames. Excited for your Paris posts! Any spot in London that surprised you the most?

  6. Wonderful photos! It’ll always be my favourite city in the world but there’s still so many areas I’ve not explored in the slightest. I’m always discovering new favourite spots when I go down.
