You may have gathered that I loved our trip to Madeira!

One of the many things I enjoyed about it was wandering around Funchal looking for the painted doors. This proved easy enough as they’re mostly concentrated on Rua de Santa Maria, so once we got onto that street, I simply walked to the end.

If you know me, you’ll know that two of my favourite things on my travels are street art and nice doors – so this combination of both was right up my… street!

I don’t have much time to write a proper post, so I thought I’d put together a photo post.

There are just so many great ones!

I can’t decide which is my favourite, but I reckon the mermaid and I also really like the one with the red floral frame and the person walking through what looks like a wasteland. I love the one of the girl sitting on the rock by the sea, too.

I also really like that they’re a bit different to your usual murals on walls. I already love taking photos of doors, but to be honest I imagine most of these would be completely nondescript without the paintings. So it’s fun to take something mundane and make it really interesting.

Between this and the Bordalo II murals and sculptures (see my main Madeira post for some of that!), it’s safe to say that Madeira has some really cool art.

  1. these are amazing, I really love street art and anything like this. Bright and fun! The mermaid is possibly my favourite too but they’re all amazing!

  2. What a fantastic photo collection! The painted doors of Funchal are such a creative twist on street artโ€”turning ordinary entrances into captivating masterpieces. The mermaid and the floral-framed wasteland scene sound especially striking. Madeiraโ€™s vibrant art scene is definitely worth exploring. Thanks for sharing these gems!
