Photo Friday: 20 Photos Of Glorious Glencoe

Whenever someone asks where they should go in Scotland, my immediate answer is GLENCOE! (Complete with capitals and exclamation mark.)

It’s a typical choice, and it’s one of the most popular places in Scotland. But as with many popular places, there is a damn good reason for it.

I feel a little guilty as I’ve rarely posted about Glencoe on the blog, despite it being one of my favourite places on earth. I think this is partly down to the fact there are lots of things I want to cover which I haven’t done yet. There are lots of pictures I still want to take of iconic views. There are a plethora of hikes I want to do. I haven’t even gone to Hagrid’s hut location yet! (Yep, there are even Harry Potter filming locations here!)

It’s the type of place I want to do justice, rather than just a pit stop in a road trip series.

But I did realise that I already have a hell of a lot of photos from this gorgeous area of Scotland, in all types of weather. It’s still almost a month before we can even get back to Glencoe, although being that it is one of Scotland’s most popular go-tos, I’m not sure we’ll make it there the second lockdown lifts – we’ll maybe wait for some crowds to disperse first!

Anyway, to whet your appetite for some Scottish scenery when we do reopen, behold twenty of my favourite photos from Glencoe.

One of the first photos I ever took of Glencoe – this is a classic view across the glen!

Buachaille Etive Mor is one of Scotland’s most iconic mountains – and features a lot in this post!

I absolutely adore this cottage! Even when it’s raining, it’s one of the most scenic places you’ll find in the whole area, which… is clearly saying a lot.

It’s not the only gorgeous cottage in Glencoe though – here’s Blackrock Cottage by the ski centre.

Kingshouse – my favourite place to camp! This is where a lot of the deer hang out, so if you want to meet a cute critter, this is the place to stop (just PLEASE don’t feed them!).

This one is technically just outside Glencoe, driving along the shores of Kinlochleven, but the conical mountain to the left is the Pap of Glencoe, overlooking Glencoe village. So I’d say it counts!

My friend Sam climbing Buachaille Etive Beag with me on a VERY sunny day. The view was astounding – the loch in the background is (I think) Blackwater Reservoir, which if you look on a map seems unbelievable that you can see it from here! And then more mountains in the background which are part of Perthshire!

And anyway, the views were about to get even better, over Glen Etive with Loch Etive in the background:

I’m hoping to cover Glen Etive in another post – every time we’ve been there, the weather has been horrendous! We haven’t even made it to Loch Etive yet.

To be fair though, it’s not great weather there for James Bond either, when he visits in Skyfall.

I really didn’t like this photo when I first took it because the sun rays were taking over the photo, but actually I really like it now.

Loch Achtriochtan (try saying that three times fast), looking back through the valley. I’d love to come back and get my photography on around the loch. Plus there’s yet another gorgeous white house there!

And leaving one of the best areas of Glencoe to last – the mesmerising Glencoe Lochan.

A walk around Glencoe Lochan – I had no idea it was this scenic before we went! It’s a really short walk too, so very easy if you fancy a walk with nice views but not a full-on hike. In fact, it’s fully accessible too.

And finally, probably my favourite photo I’ve ever taken:

One of my friends was convinced this was photoshopped until I showed him the “outtakes”! I was stood there for ages because this chap was more interested in eating grass than posing for the camera. How rude. Patience = WORTH IT.

I just adore this corner of Scotland, and although there are loads of other spectacular places to explore all over the country, I am constantly drawn to the mountains, lochs, deer and beauty of Glencoe.

I’m sure you can see why?

I’m looking forward to writing more about Glencoe (not least because it gives me yet more excuses to go back, as if I need them!). But in the meantime, I hope you enjoy the scenes from this post!
